    Heathrow expansion Archived Message

A relative who lives to the East of Heathrow within the flight path was sent this notice. Please sign the petition if you agree. I don't have sight of the help sheet.

'I wrote to you on August 3rd about Heathrow’s “Master Plan” for expanding the airport with a third runway. I urged you to voice your concerns about the proposed 50% reduction of respite time and to the increased aircraft noise, road traffic and air pollution by responding to Heathrow’s Consultation. I attached a help sheet to aid your response. If you would like to read the email again, you can do so here.

Heathrow launched its “Master Plan” Consultation in June 2019, a month after the UK Parliament had declared an Environment and Climate Emergency. The motion asked the Government to achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Heathrow aims to complete its expansion by 2050!

Heathrow is already the biggest single source of carbon emissions in the UK. CO2 emissions after expansion will be eight to nine million tonnes higher per year. This is equivalent to over seven million passenger vehicles driven for one year (London Assembly, August 15th 2019). There is no credible evidence that technology developments will enable Heathrow to deliver net zero carbon objectives by 2050.

A petition has been set up asking Parliament to abolish the planned Heathrow expansion, given the climate emergency which has been declared. The petition runs until 20th December 2019. If it is supported by 100,000 signatures, Parliament must consider it for debate. You may wish to add your signature to the petition. It can be found at: -

(They could have enlarged the preamble on the petition site with more information!)
