Thank you Margo. What a man and what a human. He speaks the truths in such a measured way, especially about his visit to Nagasaki and what he saw there. Long may he be with us. It must have been very heartening for Julian to see him.

John Pilger has obviously been in the UK to see Julian but nary a mention of that in the UK's press or other media.

I had the good fortune to meet him once (he is charming and has a magnetic personality) at the presentation of the Martha Gellhorn Award by him in 2007 to Mohammed Omer from Gaza and to Dahr Jamail who wrote about his time in Iraq during the Bush/Blair war. Dahr's book 'Beyond the Green Zone - Dispatches from an Unembedded Journalist' is recommended.

Mohammed was a photographic journalist in Gaza during the Israeli wars on Gaza. He saw his own brother killed and his house demolished during Operation Cast Lead.

He wrote this following Operation Protective Edge in 2014: Aftershock—the brutal truth of Israel's war on Gaza
A year after Israeli bombs and troops killed thousands in Gaza, Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer talks to Nick Clark about what he saw there—as well as the continuing oppression and the resistance of ordinary people

Read here how he was mistreated and beaten up by Shin Bet when he returned home via the Allenby Bridge from the ceremony in the UK. They tried to say he was in possession of money.
