Javid has always struck me as a bit of a thorn in the new Johnson government’s side: not because he’s a horrible, right-wing, narcissistic little t*rd (which Tory voters don’t mind at all), but because he’s Asian and especially because he’s a Muslim. Tory voters I know who admire Johnson, invariably dislike Javid. Cummings will hope to have gained some further credit with the hard-right Tory electoral base by Muslim-bashing Javid’s aide out of a job; Javid himself might well be the next one to go, which will also go down well. The campaign to portray Johnson as Boris the ballsy Brexiteer, sticking it to Brussels and to the PC liberal diversity “establishment”, continues apace. Message Thread: Big row brewing.
