Tony Benn was 'stridently' opposed to EU membership in 1972 when Heath put us in.
'Benn "was stridently against membership", and campaigned in favour of a referendum on the UK's membership. The Shadow Cabinet voted to support a referendum on 29 March 1972, and as a result Roy Jenkins resigned as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Benn
and still against it in 2013 at the Oxford Union.
The son, Hilary, is currently droning away on his Delaying Exiting Brexit bill. In 2015 he voted to remain in the EU 'under all circumstances'. He is now the Chairman of the Exiting the European Union Select Committee. He is still listed as a Remainer. Very conflicted Hilary. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exiting_the_European_Union_Select_Committee
