Could have made more of the fact that successive Brazilian govts have been deforesting the Amazon to serve Western corporate interests. If the country hadn't been sabotaged like all the other S.American countries and the rest of the global south then they wouldn't need to engage in this desperate fire sale of 'their' 'natural resources' in order to pay off debts and prostrate themselves in front of transnational agribusiness and logging/mining concerns. I don't have the author's faith in global governance to solve the problem. I think only the end of cheap oil and massive global trade, coupled with huge reductions in social complexity (aka collapse) is going to permanently solve this problem.
