Such a joke. Asked by Media Lens about deleting a comment in support of Assange Monbiot says
"I realised that the US extradition issue was tangled up with the Swedish one, and that I don't yet know enough about Assange's legal situation, exactly what he is awaiting and why. I will read up and return to the issue."
In other words "Yes, I would love to take a position on my fellow journalist being slowly tortured in a maximum security prison in my own country thanks in part to the complicity of my own employer - I really would - but I just don't know enough about it. Can someone send me some printed material? I can't seem to find any. As a serious intellectual, I absorb that much better."
So after a long silence on the topic this sad little man summons all his courage to write a single, tepid tweet on Assange, immediately deletes it - no doubt in fear of displeasing his employer - and then tells us it's because he needs to read up on the topic first. I believe there's a former Playboy model that could teach him something about genuine dissent and integrity.
