UK judiciary is in a bad light - from refusal to recuse to speaking to a ghost case. They should be collectively shamed on this: the world is watching. UK government now holds Assange on behalf of the USA, since his Bail Act sentence officially ended last week. US-UK seem to think holding Assange hostage gives out "a chilling message" that will shut up 'journalists' and opposition. But they take a risk on this. Mainstream hacks and 'journalists' are mostly stenographers who've never posed any threat anyway, so they don't need 'chilling messages'. Also, many of them are patently nasty people lacking compassion who'd be relieved to see Assange disappear - because he's shown them up. What might happen (unintended consequences) is that as UK judiciary and silent UK media are revealed to be US-captured, more people are going to catch sight of this ugly US-UK face. Waking up is a one-way trajectory. Once seen, this ugly face can't be unseen. That's the risk the state takes when it drops the smiley mask. Foreigners under bombs and prisoners at Guantanamo and 'black sites' have seen this ugly face: the regular Netflix homies haven't. This ugly face (rather than the friendly 'soft power' face) may be too heavy a price to pay over the long term - mainly because Assange is a principled guy who tells the truth... and his family are all-round sweet and decent Commonwealth folk, with whom many people identify.
