Doesn't look like it has helped either...athletes dropping out of races, not starting ..calf, quad, hamstring and Achilles' problems...the women's marathon was (worse than), decimated...I'm an athletics fan (you can keep most other sports except golf -as I'm a Frisbee Golfer this is natural as we'd like joint use on many courses-), and hear what you're saying about the presentation issues but these pale in comparison to the political necessity (driven by Qatar's relationship -esp. with, Britain-), of drawing Qatar further into the international fold whilst her female athletes are forced to perform with their heads covered etc... turnout has been woeful..money can buy many things but it, "can't buy you love!"

Denise Lewis and Michael Johnson articulated the issue...humidity and temperature variations (esp. when artificially induced), seem to be playing havoc with the athletes physically..esp. as Doha was "shoehorned" in at the very end of the season in order to avoid the worst of the heat....seems like they are catching it anyway!

"He said: “And the thing is… Seb, it’s like, you’re either ignorant, naïve, or full of s***.

“And he’s not ignorant or naïve — he’s full of s***.”

Logan appeared to nod and burst out laughing.

Coe, president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, says the games are in Doha to boost the sport in the Middle East.

But the games have been beset with heat-related problems, with collapsed runners stretchered out of the women’s marathon.

Johnson also implied the motivation for the Doha staging was financial — suggesting the organisers got “a boatload of money”.

He said the event had been “extremely expensive” for the teams and added: “You’ve got to hold your marathon at midnight and put athletes under hell.”

The BBC said: ‘This was a private, off-air conversation about the choice of location.”

Last night Lord Coe said: “Putting more money into the pockets of athletes is at the heart of why I am in the sport.”

He refused to comment on Johnson’s remarks." https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10031405/michael-johnson-sebastian-coe-full-of-s/
