Note in particular the idea that James states several times, with particular force at the end, that the way poll-reporting is used by the lamestream 'news' media is exactly right for injecting un-noticed assumptions subliminally into our unconscious minds; something that we of the dissident persuasion meet all the time when goodthinker interlocutors regurgitate the propaganda false-memes with which we've all been gavaged, as if the speaker thinks they are his/her original thoughts.
