I know Allan has suffered quite a bit of flak for his ideas. But at least he's speaking from a lifetime of practical experience; formerly very dispiriting; now - having found a workable, practical cure for desertification - very encouraging. Those who diss Allan should explain these before-and-afters - when they can! PS: part of the burden of remorse which Allan carries is that, earlier in his life, when he was still bought-in to the 'overstocking of livestock causes desertification' meme, he was part of a move which culled thousands - sic! - of African elephants, in pursuit of the wrong-headed 'remove the livestock and let the land rest and recover' doctrine. It didn't, of course; but now he's operating the 'increase stocking massively, to Serengeti levels, but manage it on the Serengeti natural pattern' meme; and the vegetation is coming back. Note in particular Allan's remarks in this vid about soil loss; and remember that it's deep soil which is one of the chief repositories of long-term-sequestered carbon, stored water and stored nourishment for the whole biome; amongst various other goods:
