    Timing? The strike originated over the decision by the operator, South Western Trains to remove train guards. The union maintains they are necessary in the event of an incident within a carriage affecting passenger safety and/or train derailments and accidents. I agree.

    You might have noticed the spokesman for the now privatised rail industry on the media. He is ex PR for BBC and Sky, Robert Nisbet, now a director of the Rail Delivery Group.
