As from tomorrow, Avanti take over from Virgin Trains on the West Coast line.
Avanti is 70% owned by the First Group and 30% by an Italian company called Trenitalia.
'Avanti West Coast is a future train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by FirstGroup (70%) and Trenitalia (30%) that will commence operating the West Coast Partnership franchise on 8 December 2019. It will replace Virgin Trains that had been on the line since 1997.'
Isn't privatisation of the previously state owned UK rail infrastucture just great especially when another country's state owned railway is one of the new owners of ours?
