I often wonder what the intelligance and security services actually say to so many courageous people who are going too far that is so effective. I guess it is either sex, the ability to earn any money ever again, or to do with their families. Or maybe all three? But what is described in the article always seemed to me (and I notice the described phenomenon too, all the time) as a 'license to publish' the truth. A kind of deal that is done that 'so long as you couch this in bla, bla, bla we won't contest it' and the author is relieved that he/she can get so much info out and be shot of the whole project safely while only having to drop in a few lie-bombs, and the other side is relieved they have a hook to discredit the whole thing, using the author's words, if push comes to shove.
