The Post Office is owned by UK Government Investments. Quite a murky set up. Public, private etc.
The acquisition of the Horizon IT system proved to be disastrous for the postmasters and staff who used it. Some even went to prison for false accounting and have criminal convictions which affected their chances of further employment for many, A scandal.
The chair of Post Office Ltd is Tim Parker, a stooge and on very many boards*. The CEO Paula Vennells was given a CBE in the 2019 New Year Honours for 'services to the Postal service and to charity'
He didn't get on very well as one of Johnson's deputies at City Hall. https://www.managementtoday.co.uk/meet-prince-darkness-tim-parker-private-equity-higher-taxes/article/1388507 (This is a puff piece) ________ In my town with a population of over 150,000, there used to be a Main Post Office. Its large premises were sold and it became Poundland! It moved to another large premises in a good location for access. Six or seven counters were available.
Now that has been closed and it has been moved to the first floor of WH Smith with a staircase one way down and an escalator up. The Smith's branch is downhill at the bottom of the High Street, difficult for the elderly and mothers with prams etc. and nowhere near a bus stop. The High Street is pedestrianized so a disabled badge for a car driver is useless.
No wonder the use of the internet is taking over from the postal service.
