My eldest brother was on the mv Dignity when it was rammed in the dark of the night in international waters by one of the Israeli gunships which had surrounded it and who played their headlights on the boat. That was in December in 2008. Luckily the boat, which was heading for Gaza, was wooden and clinker built. It's superstructure was damaged but there was no damage below the water line. If it had been made of synthetic materials, it would have sunk and 15 souls and the captain who was British would have gone into the rough seas of the Mediterranean at the time and perished. Cynthia McKinney, a US Congresswoman, was one of those on board. The boat was carrying several tons of medical supplies and had come from Cyprus where the passengers embarked and the cargo loaded. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7805075.stm PS The FCO was useless and unhelpful at the time when I phoned them asking for their help. The boat had limped to Tyre in the Lebanon and the passengers had to fly home. They pretended not to know anything about the incident.
