"Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi characterized the strike in dire terms, saying it is "a dangerous escalation that ignites a devastating war in Iraq, the region and the world."" https://www.npr.org/2020/01/02/793208096/iraqi-tv-says-top-iranian-military-leader-killed-in-rocket-strikes-on-iraqi-airp?t=1578161538812 Suggests over-reach by Pompeo & co. or are they so used to treating the Iraqi administration as a puppet regime that the US State Dept. never give its opinions any weight? Certainly the notion that the US can rely on the much vaunted "invitation to intervene" originally granted by the Iraqi govt. to justify extra judicial killing (murder), seems very much a paper tiger in the face of such criticism..
