Glaring hypocrisy all over this piece:

Dominic Raab has warned Iran it risks becoming an international “pariah” after the British ambassador was arrested during anti-government protests in Tehran.

The foreign secretary said the detention of Rob Macaire, without any grounds or explanation, was a “flagrant violation” of international law. He said Tehran was at a crossroads, with the prospect of continuing political and economic isolation unless it engages diplomatically with the west.

Imagine the Iranian ambassador joining an anti-war protest outside Downing Street. Wonder how long it would be before some plod were pushed to grab him?

Also, "unless it engages diplomatically with the west"...what like it has done since for ever but then the half-witted speed freak in the White House goes back on all their negotiated agreements? That kind of engagement you mean, Rabb?

It is understood that the ambassador had been attending what had been billed as a vigil for the victims of the crash at the Amir Kabir University. However the event quickly turned into an anti-government protest at which point he was said to have left.

This paragraph stinks of lawyered language: "had been billed as", "quickly turned", "said to have left". Said to have left? He either left or he didn't. Given that he was arrested at the scene I'm going to go out on a limb and say he didn't leave.

In a statement, Raab said: “The arrest of our ambassador in Tehran without grounds or explanation is a flagrant violation of international law.

“The Iranian government is at a crossroads moment. It can continue its march towards pariah status with all the political and economic isolation that entails, or take steps to de-escalate tensions and engage in a diplomatic path forwards.”

Without grounds apart from him being at a rally trying to overthrow the government.

Rabb is such a cretin. Apparently it's the Iranian government that is "marching towards pariah status" and "political and economic isolation" rather than Iran having it imposed on it by the Americans and their "international community" vassal states. A bigger inversion of the truth you'd be hard pressed to find in this week's papers.

This whole thing seems to be suspiciously well orchestrated so it looks like they are trying to get some internal action going to give them a potential rationale for regime change.

In light of some the posts on the threads about the plane that was shot down I still suspect some outside involvement in that. The make-up of the nationalities of the passengers makes it look almost hand picked. So much for my hopes that they wouldn't try to use this disaster for politcal gain; these people are ####ing ghouls.
