Did you know that George is a dual citizen - of Earth and Vulcan; in his dreams, that is. I think Archived Message

the Long Descent (away from hyperhyperhyper-hitech industrial civilisation) is going to be a considerable shock to these techno-narcissists. I'm confident there are lots of good myco- and micro-organism-generated foods - not just proteins - to be grown by sophisticated fermentaion methods. I already use some myself, and there are lots more, with further scope for exploration. But no life-process of which we know is going to rival the energy-gathering capacity of photosynthesis, especially by trees. Indeed, only chlorophyl-bearing creatures can catch the Sun's gift. All the rest of us are fundamentally dependent on them for our food-energy (apart from a few species clustered round the ocean-floor hot-vents). Forest permaculture (and Savory-style natural-grassland management), with their inbuilt Earth-remediation purpose, remain much more realistic prospects for feeding humankind AND cherishing the living Earth at the same time. That get's my bet. Wouldn't say no to micro-flour though. I imagine it will be a niche industry. And then, of course, there's the further consideration that by the end of this century, as well as a lot less techie-techie eega-beevary, there are likely to be quite a lot less human mouths to feed...
