Carbon rorts are the game, but they just went up in smoke.. Archived Message

Ever since the Kyoto deal was made on the basis of stopping land clearing, the whole focus of both sides of gov in OZ has been on sequestration and offsets, and absolutely anything that doesn't involve actually cutting FF emissions that would "damage the economy". But in the last three months, more than Australia's annual emissions have come from burning forest, negating all the offsets bought in new tree plantations, "carbon farming" and anything else that doesn't actually involve emissions. But no-one, not even the Greens, is talking about it. Suddenly everyone is talking about "Net zero carbon emissions" for anything you can imagine, but it all relies on offsets, including renewables - which are being counted multiple times, while the industry tries to come up with "low carbon" investment opportunities like lithium batteries and hydrogen power. It's all too late anyway.
