Out of interest I pasted Phillips' article into word. 950 words total, 45 of them 'I', 4 'me's. That's 5% of all the words she uses literally pointing back at herself! And then she complains about politics being a marketing campaign... It's worst in the opening and closing paragraphs: 'I said at the beginning of this process that I would tell the truth. I said that I was the bold choice and only bold could beat Boris Johnson, and I meant it. And then I did something I didn’t think I would do, and I stopped being bold. I didn’t lie, but I certainly stopped being real. I really believe that authentic, big-hearted, funny, kind and different politics is the only way to beat Johnson. So I am going to practise it. [...] I might not look the most like a prime minister in this race. I cannot win that war so I am going to stop fighting it. I am going to do the thing that made tens of thousands of people ask me to run to be the leader. I am going to say what I think. I probably won’t win, but I am guessing that I might just inspire others to give it a go, too. I believe that the only way to beat a compulsive liar, who thinks only of himself but has the gift of the gab, is to be brutally honest, give a real toss about the people in our country and also have the gift of the gab. I could be wrong, but I would rather give this way a go than ever deliver a line in 40 seconds again.' By comparison I've just been writing covering letters for some job applications, and even when specifically tasked to be writing exclusively about myself I only used 18 'I's and 4 'me's in a 480 word doc = 4.6% And that was enough to make me wince! Youtube recommended me a Channel 4 piece showing Phillips being taken round Rees-Mogg's constituency back in 2015:
She almost made him seem likeable, which is no mean feat! Again it came across as a long exercise in brand awareness for her own supposed character virtues and Authenticity(TM) in contrast to other politicians. Deeply dislikeable even before you find out about her role in the a/s witch-hunt and corbyn's political assassination. Not at all surprised to see the graun pushing her into the limelight. jeers, I
