PS: The above is crucially relevant to anyone contemplating the 'reform or replace Labour' question- Archived Message

The main reason that people are deserting Labour isn't just because of not honouring the Brexit vote. It's about the fact that - as with the US 'Democratic' party - the full-time professionals in both parties have not just abandoned the interests of their core supporters, the working class, but have taken to viewing them as distasteful plebs who must be pushed away as far as possible. Aka sawing off the tree branch on which you're sitting. Anyone hoping to bring Labour back into being a capable-of-achieving-government party is going to have to understand thoroughly the matter discussed in this thread. They're also going to have to formulate a range of policies which make it clear to the electorate at large that they're on the ball and proposing to do the right things to address the wholly changed geo/economic reality in which we now find ourselves. This goes equally for any new working-class party which hopes to make any impact on our execrable FPTP anti-democratic system.
