CIA influence may have wained a bit after the Church committe hearings, but after Cheny said the "Goves are off" with massive post-911 increased budgets and with the 2012-2013 repeal/modifiction of the Smith-Mundt act by Obama, they now have completely free reign. Information and psychological ops are not at all difficult to discern for those who have followed many of the same news topics for years.
