McCluskey on Labour's defeat Archived Message

Earlier, he told Sky News' Sophy Ridge On Sunday that Labour's election defeat was "virtually, solely down to Brexit" and defended the party's policies.

But others criticised Mr Corbyn's leadership in the wake of Labour's fourth general election loss in a row.

Immediately after the election result, former Labour MP John Mann said the leader's unpopularity on the doorstep was palpable and Labour's Caroline Flint, who lost her seat in Don Valley, said many of her voters "could not and did not want to support Jeremy Corbyn".

Yes John Mann and Caroline Flint, voters were misled into thinking Corbyn was unpopular BY YOU TWO AND YOUR DESPICABLE ACTIONS.

Somebody (a Labour voter) asked me the other day why Corbyn had been popular with the electorate in 2017 and yet not in 2019. What had gone wrong? I patiently explained (though I shouldn't have needed to do so to a Labour voter) that two solid years of relentless drip-drip-drip propaganda by the BBC, Channel 4 News, ITV and almost the entire corporate media that "Corbyn was unpopular on the doorstep" plus the fake anti-semitism charges had wrought the damage. Even loyal Labour supporters were suckered into believing the manufactured myth that Corbyn was unpopular with the public. Another Labour supporter said to me before the election that he was abstaining because he wouldn't vote for JC. His Labour MP lost to the Cons, thanks to the Brexit party taking 3000 votes that mostly would have gone to Labour (Lancashire seat).
