At the risk of getting a bit Laurence Fox, if this is in fact the "event" that led to his resignation (not that I think a highly paid stenographer to power resigning is some kind of national tragedy) it seems like another victim of the twitter witchhunt. Surely the point of the quote is, to crudely summarise it, is that the people so certain of their opinion, and the ones shouting loudest, are often the most ignorant. It's a bit of a stretch to say he "referred to" the other person as an ape. Admittedly, for a relatively high-profile person, on Twitter in a discussion with a person of colour you might think he would avoid using a quote containing words like "ape". Unless of course he chose the quote deliberately because of that just because he wanted to be racist but cloak it in the respectability of The Bard. As I say, I don't give a toss about him or any other "newsreader" but this Twitter nonsense has to go.
