Is Her Majesty at all concerned about what went on at Her Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh on the evening of Day One of the Assange hearing? Remand prisoner Assange’s legal papers were confiscated by guards. Why?? Is this legal? Then he was stripped twice and searched, ie anal cavity search ‘up the backside’ (as George Galloway described it). The man has completed his Bail Act sentence and top legal expert Nils Melzer says “there is no legal basis for this case”. As his father John Shipton muses: “For the life of me, I don’t understand why he’s still in jail.”
As Mark Curtis writes, if this was taking place in Central Asia or Africa somewhere, that would be one thing... but this is taking place in Her Majesty’s property and on her watch. she’s aware, because her office recently directly responded to a letter sent by Assange supporter Chris Lonsdale. Astonishment from Commonwealth countries at what the Head of the Commonwealth tolerates in her own backyard.
