The more I think about it the more that footage of Peston haranguing Rebecca L-B in front of a room full of Zionist extremists strikes me as a key moment burying Corbyn and the hopes he represented:
Peston's question (from around 3:30), 'do you regard it as anti-semitic to describe Israel, its policies, or circumstances around its foundation, as racist because of their discriminatory impact? Is that an anti-semitic statement?’ and RLB immediately replying in the affirmative felt like a trap snapping shut. For a moment it seems like Peston can hardly believe his luck or that it was so easy to sign up all the leadership candidates to condemn Corbyn directly as an antisemite, but then of course he quickly presses the advantage: ‘Jeremy Corbyn presented to the NEC [National Executive Committee, Labour’s governing body] a document, which he wanted the NEC to approve, which would have said that that statement is not anti-semitic. That was a disgrace, wasn’t it?… It was an extraordinary moment. I don’t understand why, since the NEC did in the end approve the document that, at that point, there wasn’t a deeper reckoning…. This was back in 2018 – I don’t understand why there wasn’t a deeper reckoning…. And Jeremy brought to the NEC a compromise statement that most people would have said was straight forwardly anti-semitic.’ This was crying out for the kind of detailed rebuttal that ML have provided here, proving the indisputably racist nature of Israel's colonial and ongoing apartheid project. I won't hold my breath for any leading figures in Labour to make any of these elementary points though... It's another deeply disturbing aspect of this witch-hunt that there's zero respect for truth or reality, present or historical. It struck me at the time of Livingston's expulsion: nobody cared at the time that his statements about Nazi support for Zionism were basically correct. History was made to conform to modern political expediency. Another hallmark of fascism in & of itself if you ask me. I
