Instead of visiting the areas affected by the floods, Johnson was attending the Tory fundraiser, previously called the Black and White Ball but renamed the Winter Ball. It was held on Tuesday evening at some exclusive destination in Battersea.
An auction was held. A sum of £45,000 was bid for a tennis match with Boris. And so on. The evening was organised by Messrs David Ross and Rutland. See Guardian link below.
Corbyn raised the matter yesterday at PMQs.
'Jeremy Corbyn The Welsh Government have done their best to step up to the crisis, despite the underfunding from Westminster. The Prime Minister was keen to pose for cameras when there was a crisis on during the election, but he often goes AWOL: he was late to respond to the London riots because he was on holiday; he was on a private island when the Iranian general was assassinated; and last week he had his head in the sand in a mansion in Kent. The hon. Member for Calder Valley (Craig Whittaker), another of his colleagues, said that it “is not good enough”. How can the country trust a Prime Minister, a part-time Prime Minister, who last night was schmoozing Tory party donors at a very expensive black-tie ball instead of getting out there and supporting the people who are suffering because of the floods? This Government need to step up to the plate, invest in defences and ensure that there is real insurance for people whose homes are being ruined by these floods as we speak.'
Good on him.
The subject cropped up on tonight's Radio 4. Details were given.
Shame on these Tories. They are just a load of crooks.
