'paid' for itself. The proper policies for facing the likely future are comprehensive pulling in of horns, concentrating on securing the basic necessities for all, rather than pursuing hare-brained, never-to-be-realised schemes for yet more economic growth, and more excess, horrendously mal-distributed, wholly unnecessary wealth for those who are already much too rich (though mainly in illusory evaporating-paper forms). There are only going to be so many resources available, dwindling steadily, to take care of Britain's grotesquely bloated population in the future, as all the scarcity-screws continue to tighten down remorselessly. Daft schemes that simply don't comport with our likely future help to waste those - dwindling - resources pointlessly even faster.
