-Yes. I think Americans excel at this particular double standard and unlike Europeans, also have a habit of extending it generally to language. Given a choice between a policy of mass murder and a tolerance of sexual swearing, you get the idea that a lot of US citizens are purile enough to chose the former...But of course they will doubtless also be the same ones paying their cable bills right on time for that morally guilt free endless smorgasbord celebration of gratuitous murder, blood & violence ( with the corrupting verbal "profanities" of European imports bleeped out of course...) The term "potty mouth" is itself a strangely juvenilised US usage...as is the term "poo" for shit. One wonders if the business is to do with societal infantilisation: if you follow the rules you won't ever get into trouble and whatever happens: even if its bad shit, it won't ever be your fault.
