..because, even after all these years, it is done basically by trial and error - predictions of how the immune system will respond to a vaccine, and how a pathogen will behave under vaccine pressure, are not at all possible with precision. All we've gained in the past 40 yrs or so is the ability to try more things. It doesn't mean we have any more idea what will end up being a good vaccine, or how good it will be. The immune system is complex. |
