That could be turned into a weak argument for lifting the lockdown. But even then the disadvantaged will be even more disadvantaged. Increasing the number of deaths benefits nobody. Though lunatics might not see it that way. Alternatively, here's something I wrote earlier: "The lockdown is a good idea. It stops spread. It seems rather obvious. It needs to be more stringently imposed. More support needs to be given to disadvantaged people. I'd imagine some people are in a really bad way. But that's not an argument for lifting the lockdown. It's an argument for providing more support. So far they've been mainly supporting the bosses". I've been following what's going on in India and South Africa and all over the place (I've got too much time on my hands). Many people's lives hang by a thread. I'm under no illusions, Margo. The problem, as always, is Capitalism. The virus just underlines that fact. Or certainly should.
