'100,000 tests a day' was the latest promise from Hancock. More than 400,000 people have now been tested for coronavirus in the UK, as a row has broken out over the meagre levels of testing in the country. More than five weeks ago NHS England announced it would scale up testing capacity to 10,000 a day, but that number wasn't reached until April 1. At that rate it would take more than 18 years for each person in the UK to be tested.
