    Yes, on the subject of wholly independent journalism he's a bit pollyanish. He constantly says things like "Journalism is walking down the street and reporting what you see". Which is one type of journalism, but it's kind of a long and wet walk if your goal is to provide, say, on-the-ground war correspondence from Gaza during an Israeli attack, for example. Also his own reporting often relies on on journalists in the employ of a media organization, as with Aaron Mate, who was employed by the Nation for his Russiagate research or Matt Taibbi, who writes for Rolling Stone. I think he underestimates the difficulties - resources, legal jeopardy - for long-form investigative journalism, national security reporting, or foreign correspondence that relies solely on audience support and uses his own success as an example of how easy it is, despite the fact that he doesn't do any of either. Still, his critique has some legitimacy, and soon there probably won't be any other options for dissident journalism anyway.
