I don't know who Martin whatsisname is -- nor do I care -- but I do note that he's done exactly what clueless idiots always do when they try to slag off inadequate incumbents: he looks at the inadequate incumbents who were there before, and pretends there was something terrific about them... "... decent, thoughtful, independent-minded MPs [...] – the likes of Rory Stewart, Dominic Grieve, Philip Hammond, Justine Greening, David Gauke, Oliver Letwin, Sam Gyimah, Anna Soubry, Heidi Allen, Sarah Wollaston and Philip Lee..." LOL!! Then there's this absurd emission (voice trembling with 'vanished golden age' respect and emotion...): "... The days when politics attracted people of the highest calibre are long over..." Too ridiculous to deserve discussion, of course (the Keir Hardies of the world excepted...). But with regard to today's crappy crop, why would anyone of intellectual and ethical substance want to play in such a dirty and rigged game -- in which 'success' simply means having to facilitate the plundering of the nation by the most evil and destructive forces on the planet? We have, after all, arrived at the ultimate end-point of dystopian minarchism: a 'night watchman state' where all the watchman has to do is *unlock the gates, and look the other way*... M.
