"Just over 81,000 tests across the UK took place on Wednesday, "
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52496227

Yesterday's govt figure (refers to day before) says "687,369 people have been tested, of whom 171,253 have tested positive."
    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

The previous day's figure was 632794; hence 54,575 tests not 81,000.

What is the source of this claim? Likely to be Jenrick, Hancock or Shapps (on Question Time).
    Anybody know?

The govt has peddled fake news before on number of tests, having used a retrospective one-off update as if it were a a new high-testing normality (https://members5.boardhost.com/xxxxx/msg/1587897435.html)

    Many outlets repeat this:

"Just over 81,000 tests across the UK took place on Wednesday"

without giving a source. We are being informed by people who don't know the basics of news communication, don't care about sources in the rush to re-post even unofficial claims as facts.

Lucky for them they aren't reporting on Trump's gibberings.
