I was in the pub (aaahhhh, remember those days ....?) talking to a Labour ex-councillor about the candidates for the Labour leadership. He wasn't keen on any of the shortlist -- Nandy, Starmer, double-barrelled Bailey -- so I asked him who his preferred candidate was. He said Jess Phillips. The beer suddenly tasted sour in my mouth and I had to sit in a darkened corner for a while until the nausea had passed. |
