Because our PM said "If you want to go out and play, download the App today". Nae guisin! (he was in advertising before politics) I call it the 'Dutton Regime Surveillance app', because it is the missing eye for the Five Eyes; from Google they already have isp details and location, but not phone number and facial recognition and name. Unlike in the UK, where the app could conceivably help trace contacts, but only if you are near them for 15 minutes... in a supermarket queue? - in a train?, in Australia where most states have already exterminated CV19 for a week, there is no possible use to trace contacts, exposing the fact that the App, without which we will be kept locked up indefinitely, is really for tracing people who are meeting other people of interest. It might also be used by plain clothes agents to monitor individuals of interest, or perhaps receive bluetooth signals via drones...? Orwell had nothing on this!
