Some swift comments - I'll deal with your post in more detail later. It was the communists who destroyed the anti-fascist resistance in Spain. Stalin's dual goal of eliminating the POUM and the anarchists was even announced in Pravda at the time. They even compared it with what they had done in Russia post 1917! When I get a chance I'll get you the date. The Spanish people were poorly served by their governments. The way they handed over various institutions to the communists in exchange for Russian arms was outrageous. They basically allowed Spain and the Spanish people to be cannon fodder in a proxy war which was really the opening stage of World War II. The Spanish government, like the Stalinists, was more fearful of the social revolution than it was of the fascists. I find your comments fascinating. It's illuminating to see that 84 years after the social revolution took place in Spain communists still feel the need to denigrate its achievements - a fine example of historial engineering. It rather suggests communists still feel threatened by the very idea of a social revolution - a revolution that puts power into the hands of ordinary people. Mind you, as was shown in 1917 when they stole the revolution from the ordinary people of Russia, authoritarian communists are normally more counter-revolutionary than revolutionary.
