Ynys Môn (Anglesey) was part of the Kingdom of Gwynedd... a Welsh/ Brythonic kingdom founded by the princes of the Gwyr y Gogledd: Men of the North(now southern Scotland). It has been raided and sometimes occupied by the Irish & Vikings before Edward I took it. There was indeed a period when it was considered a sub-kingdom itself but within Gwynedd & ruled by the natural successor to the king of Gwynedd. But this is par for the course: the heir apparent to the Scottish kings were traditionally made sub-kings/princes of Strathclyde/Cumbria and even now the heir apparent to Queenie: Charlie boy gets a princedom to himself called Wales.
