One of the first striking chimes of media narrative dissonance I noticed in my childhood was the BBC's fawning of Churchill as a great hero and example to us all and the views of all those in my family of my grandparent generation who saw both wars and whom loathed the man viscerally: "Murdering bastard" was the least of it.
