Your last para contains the crucial points. If you accept the logic of the covid diktats, then this new world (recurring lockdowns, anti-social distancing, masks, rapid intro of novel vaccines) should now be permanent because, as you say, there will always be viruses out there. And it doesn't even matter if they appear to be mild, because allowing mild viruses to go unchecked might be precisely how they become serious. Moreover, by the logic of covid propaganda, we should have been wearing masks for the preceding decades/centuries. The efficacy of all strategies (herd immunity, lockdowns, masks, distancing, vaccines) is uncertain. Lockdowns can kill many people. Letting the virus 'rip' can kill many people. On the other hand, both strategies could save many people. So it's a question of what type of society we want to live in, and implementing the chosen strategy to best effect. And, again, the logic of masks leads to absurdity. Everyone (from all sides of the debate) accepts that a high proportion of masks are useless, e.g. too porous, not worn properly. Therefore, the logic dictates that those who are seriously concerned about public health will wear three or five or ten layers of mask - just one layer of mask means you're just making a token gesture. It's like simply popping a clown hat on your head to attend fancy-dress party - you don't believe in fancy-dress. And a full extrapolation of mask-logic leads to the conclusion that you should not leave the house at all; you should continue in lockdown because a brick wall is an infinitely better virus-barrier than a bit of cloth. There are many things we could do the protect the vulnerable (indeed, we actually did one massive thing: we built massively extra hospital capacity - which turned out not to be needed). And in the meantime, the healthy should continue living as normal and building up the population's herd immunity. And a Tory government has proven how easy it is to implement a socialist revolution; so we should do that but focus policing on the source of our health problems (big business), not the victims.
