    some feminist... Archived Message

'And then, suddenly, she enters, and the atmosphere changes even in a virtual room, international accent first and then the face that launched 1,000 covers; skin dewy and glowy, goddess-like; impossibly high cheekbones and honey-blonde highlights. “Hi,” she says coyly. Polite but unapologetic.'

So 40 mins late to her appointment but it's okay because she looks pretty. No apology considered necessary by either party. This 'feminist' seems to be endorsing the patriarchal message that you should judge a woman by her appearance and not by her character or behaviour. Has she ever critiqued the whole idea of a 'supermodel' who is just supposed to pout and look attractive for a camera and the millions of salivating consumers on the other side of it? Isn't there something problematic about putting a woman on a pedestal simply for her outer appearance? Seems to me that would be damaging both for the Chosen one and for all those who drink in the images, knowing they or their partner could never aspire to such beauty (but maybe some of the glamour might rub off on them if they buy whatever product she's being used to sell). But then what would I know, I've never been published in The Guardian.

    jeers,
    I
