The party has been reanimated, its policies and outlook now decidedly socialist; the left is a substantial force again rather than a vestige.

    Huh???

But its embattled mentality, however justified, led to a paranoid and isolated leadership, cut off from the wider party.

By leadership does he mean Corbyn or McNicol? It was McNicol who was "cut off" from the wider party as the leaked investigation makes clear. Deliberately so. The party bosses shunted funds to safe seats and starved marginals because they wanted Corbyn to lose the election. And their strategy worked. He did lose.

Whatever Corbyn’s policy achievements the left must concede that they did not inspire a majority of voters.

Yes they did -- in the same article this clown admits Labour's policies on utilities and rail renationalisation and aiming to build a fairer society were overwhelmingly popular -- but the opposition (including the media of course) ignored policy issues and cleverly aimed their barbs at other, manufactured targets, antisemitism and so on. And Corbyn dumbly let them. As Karl Rove advised in the US: Go for your opponents' strongest suit, not their weakest.

This bloke wouldn't see the elephant in the room if it was sat on his foot.
