It reminds me a lot of the Malaysia flight 17 back box situation - with hindsight, they should have been opened and the data cloned with Russians present because even the "See? We have nothing to hide" stance proved corruptible.
Nothing good will come of this 'guest of the German Chancellor and military' thing, that was predictable. The narrative is etched in stone, as if they are now going to (or able to) say "Oh! It was just stress".
Nothing good would have come from keeping him in Omsk either "because they were frightened of what might be found".
