    RIP Declan Murray Archived Message

    "A cyclist who died after he was found lying in a road next to his bicycle has been identified after a police appeal.

    The man was pronounced dead on the B2150 at Brockbridge, near Droxford, Hampshire, on 10 August.

    He is believed to be Declan Murray, 55, who was reported missing from his home in Southampton on 16 August, police said.

    A post-mortem examination has indicated that Mr Murray was not involved in a collision.


    Paramedics tried to resuscitate him after being called to the scene near the junction with Station Road at about 23:00 BST, police said.

    Detectives released a picture of the man's purple and white Pioneer bicycle in order to identify him.

    On Thursday, police issued an appeal to trace Mr Murray, saying he was believed to have been missing for nine days after leaving his home in Holyrood Avenue.

    My oldest friend in Southampton..we lived in the same house (he ground floor me top floor), as Hamwic Housing Co-Op members back in the late eighties early nineties..I have recounted conversations I've had with Declan on the board a few times.....scientist (bio-chemistry), by training but a talented political philosopher nonetheless (more widely read than myself),.. He never, to my knowledge, owned a television.
    We had drunk Kentish Ales (bottled), together in my garden only a day or so before he died, his mood was the same as ever...he often went cycling in the countryside..so nothing unusual there either..I'm baffled..waiting for the post mortem..only found out today (upstairs neighbour drew my attention to the online Southampton Echo article). Shocked..he has been my most frequent visitor since I moved to the estate ten years ago...old friend and a respected intellect...could say more but I'm waiting to see what the post mortem findings are...sadly..
