I see the " hot buttoning" primarily as a way of firstly, reducing conflict and secondly as a means to keep other elements of the discussion, the strengths of the other person's arguments open.
I get the dig but see it as a better approach than the usual, mainstream idea that say in a output with ten " useful" ideas, nine don't have to be jettisoned because of one " problematic" idea. ... The bigger fascism.
Of course, who decides which ideas are problematic is tricky. Best left to individual judgement I suspect. The lesser fascism.
