Of course they continue to be silently complicit in the torture and railroading of Julian Assange on behalf of the US security state; in the absolute subversion of due process and the rule of law which they falsely claim to be committed to in their mission statement; in the dragging of the UK judicial system through the mud by ignoring the judicial malfeasance of Baraitser and Arbuthnot; in the ushering in of a fascist world order which this show trial represents. Recently the president of the Society, Simon Davis, publicly condemned Bojo's Home Office for calling solicitors who provide legal advice to migrants "activist lawyers", saying this "undermined the rule of law,” and was "misleading and dangerous", that we "should be proud that we live in a country where legal rights cannot be overridden without due process" and "proud that we have legal professionals who serve the rule of law". https://www.lawsociety.org.uk/contact-or-visit-us/press-office/press-releases/attacks-on-the-legal-profession-undermine-the-rule-of-law
Such absolute bullshit and hypocrisy in the context of Davis turning a blind eye to Assange's judicial torture. Anyway, I've written repeatedly to the society, to Simon Davis and to VP David Greene, including emails pointing out the ridiculousness of taking a pubic stand on the government's comment about activist lawyers while staying silent on the Assange case. Not one word in response. In case anyone feels motivated to write a few lines to these guys or to share the evidence of their society's hypocrisy in invoking the rule of law in the case of the Home Office's "activist lawyers" comment while ignoring the incommensurably greater assault on the rule of law in Assange's case with a sympathetic journalist in the UK, please do. Any pressure exerted now may be useful.
