People think GM is dangerous, because you can very precisely target one, specific site in a genome that is 3 billion bits of information long (plant genomes are even longer), and it is correct to say this is indeed possible to do with today's technology. But on the other hand (the same?) people think the COVID PCR test doesn't work because you cannot very precisely target the unique bits of information that are completely specific to SARS-CoV2, in its genome that is only 30,000 bits of information long. Which is 100-thousand times simpler than our own genomes. But its precisely the *same* principle involved. See the cognitive dissonance? - Shyaku
