Corrupt banks down the Memory Hole Archived Message

Two or three weeks ago I watched a documentary about major banks -- HSBC, Barclays, Citibank and several others -- which had knowingly and systematically laundered billions (trillions?) of dollars from illegal and criminal enterprises. The story was a 24-hours flash-in-the-pan. A brief flurry of fuss and concern and then -- nothing.

Unlike topics the corporate media strives to keep going for months on end -- antisemitism in the Labour party, Corbyn's unpopularity with voters -- this story was swiftly buried and forgotten. Move along, nothing to see here. It's all under control.

What should have been a major scandal with executives being led away in handcuffs and banks being fined millions, with politicians speaking out about the disgraceful corruption by senior people, with editorials and current affairs pundits (the Peston's and Maitlises and Marrs) carrying out investigations and interviewing the miscreants -- all was forgotten and forgiven.

Thank god for a free press.
