- Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman were jailed in the US then deported to Russia, where they were exalted, and used, by the Bolsheviks. It took them the best part of two years to see what the Bolsheviks were really up to. Mind you, today, a hundred years later, loads of so-called left wingers still believe in the Bolsheviks. Kropotkin was another who was taken in by the Bolsheviks. His eyes were eventually opened. Having his political books banned in Russia might have had something to do with it. Only his scientific works continued to be published. Later on he said what the Bolsheviks taught us was how not to make a revolution. Leaving his support for the war aside (with some difficulty) he was a fine writer. |
